What a fantastic day this was! We got the whole Joslin family out for an exhilarating day of white water rafting and it sure had us laughing and screaming straight from the beginning. Before we had even seen a dingy the fun kick started with 40 minute ride up through the jungle in the back of a pick up truck and as I found out it consisted of constant observation and quick reactions or you will indeed get smacked in the face by a palm tree! It hurts and it cuts but it’s actually not my first high speed tree to the face* so as you can see I laughed it off pretty quick, it’s the best medicine!
Luckily I was taking pictures of my face palm moment so check out the slap in question below.
Just encase you missed the point of impact here it is!
*Amongst many other high speed tree incidents; my favourite was while snowboarding off piste in Italy, trying to weave in & out of some tight trees. I couldn’t turn sharp enough and got a branch straight to the face and carried on going with all the momentum, all I could smell was pine for 2 days haha.
Anyway moving on, once we got on the water we pretty much hopped straight back out and took a plunge in to check the life jackets are all working properly. This caused some more funny noises as we all eventually adjusted to the cold of the water. (takes like 5 seconds and you soon love them temperature don’t worry) The hot sun mixed with the occasional splashes of water and a journey through the beautiful jungle scenery with the odd sightings of big butterflies, birds and even monkeys make for a wonderful and comfortable experience. Then throw in some bumps, bashes, spinning and screaming and you have yourself a great adventure!
Here’s the deets:
Price: 150RM or £28 (cheaper without insurance)
Location: Gopeng, Perak, Malaysia
Camera: My Gopro Hero 3 (although from the looks of their website they might have professional photographers during peak season)
Comments: You’re in good hands, as part of their training they are strong and skilled enough to paddle you back up the rapids at night! Plus ‘Jerry’ represents Malaysia for kayaking. Go Jerry!
I certainly enjoyed it and my parents said they would do it again too, how cool are they!
If you’ve found anywhere in Malaysia you find as exciting for similar or cheaper activities please let me know! Or even better, have you looked but need someone to go with? Come save me from the city life of KL and settle my adventure cravings haha
