#Day94 #365JosHappyDays – Went to go see my grandma and this time she didn’t call me a girl!

image

Well it’s always nice to be called beautiful but I would prefet if I wasn’t called a beautiful girl..  Thanks grandma! But il cut you some slack since you’re doing great for 98 🙂  But progress, as this visit she remembered me as Thomas and even asked when I was going to Japan, I was impressed.  But not as impressed as she was with our holiday pictures,  we showed her our time white water rafting and my time on a island near by.  She had a lovely reaction of saying what a wonderful house we have, so lucky to have such nice things in your garden!

Well it’s nice to know she’s proud of us even if it is a little misinterpreted, don’t worry grandma owning an island is already one of my goals in life!  Il just be sure too look for one with a river too ha 🙂

#Day50 #365JosHappyDays – Chinese new year with the family.

image

Well this is definitely my favourite Chinese new year celebration; for one we’ve made it to Malaysia and two we’ve got all the family together. Haven’t had this size reunion for around 10 years so you can imagine how many times I got the classic “aww when I saw you last, you were only thisssss tall!”. Well I can safely say I don’t think I can get any taller so there will be no chance of that happening next time. Since we have some new lil editions to the family looks like I can being the one doing it, maybe il evening throw in a cheek pinch to be the best annoying uncle haha.

But that aside it really was lovely to see everyone and the smiles continued off camera aha

So as with most Asian traditions it’s revolves around the food and my auntie cooked up a feast of delicious dishes, look how many there are!

One of my favourite dishes is Yee Sang, it’s a kind of salad thats had before the meal. Everyone gets in with their chopsticks to mix it together and wish prosperous things upon each other and I’ve been told the higher you go the more prosperous it becomes! I do love to play with my food but it also tastes great too, it’s that cleansing citrus taste that means I’m usually the one scooping off the very last bits.

I couldn’t exactly tell you wants in it other than shredded veg, salmon, grapefruit, sesame oil,   syrup, then red bits, green bits, crispy bits and much more..  All about those crispy bits though! Mmm.

Sadly this dish is only eaten one time of the year but at we had it with every relative we met for dinner of that period so I had it maybe 3 or 4 times! 😀

#Day46 #365JosHappyDays – Whole Joslin family reunited with the ong family.

image

My whole family has been born with the travel bug from the very beginning to the extent that my mum starts pretending I’ve been on holidays I haven’t;
Me: “Mum why don’t I remember Tunisia?”
Mum: “Well, actually you were in my womb at the time”
Haha great!

Since then we’ve all ended up in different countries, parents in UK, bigger bro in Malaysia, biggest bro in Kuwait and me floating around whatever countries I can since graduation in UK last year.

It’s been a few years since all of us have been back together in the same country, making today a good day and a great start to the Chinese new year. And a nice lunch out with the ong family too, even if they do make me try a chickens foot..
You know what, it’s not too bad, any skin lover might enjoy it once you get past the bones. This one was fairly soft but turn that foot into KFC and I recon that will make me come back for a second serving.
